We all love our annual vacation but there are those that never go too far from home and then you find the adventurous types that will travel the world. Wherever it is you want to visit, there will be numerous sources of information online at special travel sites. Many people use the internet now to plan even complex travel plans, never seeing a travel agent. Generally travel agents cannot compete, at least financially, with the wealth of sites that can offer amazing discounts.

There is obviously a great deal of trust required to use the internet this way as often the companies you deal with have never been anything else but an internet based business. However, I am still of the old school and prefer to sit down with a cup of coffee and plan my vacation with a professional, face to face. With a travel agent, I can change my mind about my plans several times, call and ask questions, and have someone to blame should my vacation not turn out to be what I was hoping for. Travel sites on the other hand tend to just be computerized and it is rare that you actually get to speak to a person and then if you do get to speak to a real person, you have no clue where they are.

The problem I find with travel sites is there is no-one to speak to and I find this very impersonal; if you are fortunate enough to find someone to speak with they may be in another country for all you know.

I have to say that I envy here but she has an understanding company that is far more flexible than mine which require more notice for a vacation. If you are flexible though, booking through a travel site could be incredibly worthwhile plus, travel sites offer discount coupons and prices for excursions or miscellaneous items when you book online.

Now I know I said that I book my vacation using a real travel agent but that doesn't mean I do not take advantage of the internet to carry out research on my chosen destination first. I know it may seem unkind after all the help that my travel agent has given me but I know that if I have problems that need correcting when I return, it is easy to go along and see her to have sorted out.
