Lovely Perth Awaits You In Central Scotland

By Frederick Hoymer

Perth is a lovely place located in the center of Scotland. The geographical location makes it very accessible to visitors coming from other spots of Scotland as well as from England. With Edinburgh and Glasgow international airports nearby, it can be accessed easily from anywhere.

You will find plenty to keep you busy in Perth. There is something for every interest. Just to wander around the local streets is a joy with all the gardens and old buildings that you will pass.

Old buildings are indeed a highlight in this area. There is St Johns Kirk built in 1159 making it the oldest of the buildings in Perth. You should also pay a visit to St Ninians Cathedral. And nearby is Scone palace. Though the current building was only built in the early part of the 19th century, the site has seen 42 Scottish kings crowned.

Cultural activities are well represented here. There are art galleries and museums to see such as the Perth Museum and Art Gallery. This is not only the main museum in Perth, it is one of the oldest in the country. If you are lucky enough to be there at the right time of year, there is the Perth Festival of the Arts. Held for two weeks each year, the festival includes classical music, art, theater and opera.

If it is sports that you prefer, you have many possibilities here such as rugby, football, curling and volleyball. A horse racing course at Scone palace grounds features not just horse racing but other events also.

If you are bringing the family with you, you should visit the water park, Perth Leisure Pool. It includes six pools, whirlpools, two flumes and a wild water channel. There is a special shallow pool for children and an outdoor play park and picnic area for use in summer. Other health facilities at the location include steam, sauna and a gym.

Other places of interest include a glass factory where you can see how glass is blown. There is a winery where you can taste the fruit wines and have a tour. Or you can stop by one of the local whiskey distilleries.

After the activities are done, you can relax and enjoy one of the many restaurants. There are choices of cuisine from throughout the world. Stop by a real Scottish pub and try an ale or whiskey in the proper setting.

Visiting Perth is an opportunity to visit a part of history with all the modern conveniences. The charm of the place and the ease of getting there will make you want to come back again and again.
