Things To Do In Jersey

By Frederick Hoymer

There is so much to do in Jersey. If you are a visitor to the island or you are a local just looking for something to do on a rainy day, you are bound to find something that takes your fancy.

The first thing to consider when going in the warm weather are all of the beaches. There are over 20 of them dotted conveniently around the island and no matter where you are you will never be too far away from the beautiful soft sands.

For those who enjoy a bit of physical exercise and getting involved close to nature, there are also numerous lovely walks that you can go on and bike rides to enjoy. Again, this sort of activity is better during the summer months.

For other family days out, you could look to visit the zoo that houses some of the worlds most endangered animals. The park is set in grounds of about 31 acres and has a restaurant and gift shop for when the kids get hungry and want their cuddly toy of their favorite animal.

Other ideas for family days out include a trip to Samares Manor which boasts some lovely grounds with beautiful herb gardens. If you want to take in the beautiful sights at your leisure you can take a trip on a horse drawn cart. If you want to take in the ambiance and the sights of the Manor you can take a tour of the rooms and its history. There is also a wonderful butterfly enclosure with numerous species of butterfly to visit if you so desire.

There are also many museums on the island for the more cultural amongst us to explore. The history of the island and all its wonderful traditions are depicted in the Jersey museum, with the use of interactive displays and exhibits to capture the imagination. For those interested in the great British history amongst the waves, there is also the maritime museum that offer some insight into Jersey's contribution to the homeland.

One final museum of note for all those history buffs if the military museum that gives accounts of the islands input to different military engagements. Both British and German artifacts are displayed with things like military equipment, uniforms, and letters on view.

The island therefore offers to much to any visitor and can make a fantastic destination for a short family vacation.
