By Nick Lawrence

Due to the Australian Open marking the beginning of the fresh 2010 tennis calendar year, the action is finally here again. There are loads of participants comprising a group that finds itself lots more saturated than it's found itself in many years.

No longer are the days of Roger and Nadal reaching the finals of every event. There are a small number of other participants competing professionally with good chances each time a tournament commences.

Though Roger and Rafa Nadal enjoy the leading two positions in the field of players, there are several competitors that could finish up the year on top of the world at # 1. Let's take a look at the most likely heirs to the throne now.

Clearly, there is Roger Federer. He must constantly be considered the most likely to end up at the top of the rankings, as he's succeeded in doing so pretty much every single year throughout the duration of the most recent decade. In spite of everything, his age of twenty nine means that he's slowly beginning to age.

If Rafael Nadal is going to stay in good shape, there's no basis to think that he cannot end up there. The truth is, numerous fans consider that he could have wound up there last year had he not been required to skip Wimbledon as a consequence of his knee injury.

Also in the mix is the burgeoning 20 year old Juan Martin Del Potro, whose outstanding title at Flushing Meadows stunned numerous tennis enthusiasts. To informed fans, the Argentine's breakthrough wasn't such a shock. The player is amazingly gifted and has what it takes to take the world's best ranking this season.

Finishing things off are a pair of additional possible men. Why don't we have a glance at them both.

Novak Djokovic is amongst these prospects who fans was sure would probably be number 1 sometime, however he hasn't entirely gotten there up till now. He's a lot more mature at the current age, and might at long last boast both the physical and psychological know how to make it happen.

Then, there is Andy Murray. With youth on his side, this English star is still improving and peaked as high as the second spot recently. With a few meaningful titles this season, he can become this season's unexpected surprise.
