Ten Favorable Suggestions For An Amazing Motion Picture To Observe Tonight

By Courtney Walsh

Good motion picture summaries start here. Down to Earth - Homer Croy's continuation to "They had to See Paris" has newly riche Midwesterner Rogers setting an end to his family's mindless investing by affirming that he's broke. Not one of Will Roger's best film attempts. Cast includes Can Rogers, Irene Opulent, Dorothy Jordan, and Mary Carlisle. (73 minutes, 1932)

Live Flesh - Smitten child of a prostitute is imprisoned for accidentally shooting and paralyzing a cop. Original account of teenager's mistake that takes him to prison. Spanish language. Cinematically stimulating, albeit, with a bravura finale. Cast includes Pedro Almodovar, Liberto Rabal, Francesca Neri, Javier Bardem, Angela Molina, Jose Sancho, and Penelope Cruz. (100 minutes, 1997)

Richard's Things - Widow Ullmann is seduced by her late husband's lady friend. Screenplay by Frederic Raphael based on his novel. Cast includes Liv Ullmann, Amanda Redman, Tim Smith, Elizabeth Spriggs, and David Markha. (104 minutes, 1980)

In Enemy Country - So-so designer of WW2 enthrall, set in France and England, filmed on a back-lot. Not very persuading. Cast includes Tony Franciosa, Anjanette Comer, Guy Stockwell, Paul Hubschmid, Tom Bell, and Emile Genest. (107 minutes, 1968)

Thunderheart - There have been a number of murders on the Sioux Indian Reservation. The FBI goes in to deal with the situation. One agent, Ray Levoi, has Sioux blood. As he investigates the case he soon realizes there is much more going on than some chance killings.

The Interpreter - U.N. translator Silvia Broome overhears a death threat made against an African leader. She knows that she was watched and fears for her life. Upon reporting the circumstance to law enforcement, she finds that aid will not come easy.

Ruby Gentry - Pompous, strolling account of simple-minded Southerner Jones wedding successful Malden to spite Heston, the gentleman she cherishes Cast includes Jennifer Jones, Charlton Heston, Karl Malden, and Josephine Hutchinson. (82 minutes, 1952)

Black like Me - Commanding drama based on genuine history of a reporter who took drugs that permitted him to pass for black so he might experience racial prejudice first hand. Some aspects of presentation are outdated, although subjects are still significant. Cast includes James Whitmore, Roscoe Lee Browne, Lenka Petersen, Sorrell Booke, Will Geer, Al Freeman, and Raymond Jacques. (107 minutes, 1964)

Hanky Panky - Blameless designer Wilder is pursued by snoops, cops, etc. Unsurprising, hardly preposterous comedy-thriller, with Radner miscast as the love interest. The movie was meant to be a follow-up to Stir Crazy, although Richard Pryor's part was changed for Gilda. You have seen it all before, and better. Cast includes Gene Wilder, Gilda Radner, Kathleen Quinlan, Richard Widmark, Robert Prosky, Josef Sommer, and Johnny Sekka. (88 minutes, 1982)

Sing, You Sinners - Wagering Crosby couldn't face responsibility, regardless of jabbing his sibling MacMurray. Three siblings with dissimilar interests have a singing act. Can the other two brothers save the day when the gambling sibling bets on a "sure thing"? Includes Wesley Ruggles, Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Donald O'Connor, Elizabeth Patterson, Ellen Drew, and John Gallaudet. (88 minutes, 1938)
