Films are wonderful entertainment but they can also be very valuable for our mental health. Movies allow us to take some time to settle down and flee from our daily difficulties and concerns. We are able to let go of our day by day cares as we get caught up in the lives we are viewing on film.
From Nashville with Music - Some exceptional country and western music, though one would be better served to acquire one of the actors' albums rather than agonizing through this tale of a New York couple who go to the Grand Ole Opry unintentionally. Cast includes Marilyn Maxwell, Leo G. Carroll, Pedro Gonzalez, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens. (87 minutes, 1969)
Seaside Players - Cast includes John Leyton, Mike Same, Freddie and The Dreamers, Ron Moody, and Liz Fraser. Group of adolescents performing at seaside resort dispose for a talent competition which is to be the highlight of the summer season. (94 minutes, 1965)
Kill or Be Killed - Karate champions lock limbs as ex-Nazi teacher wants payback contrary to Japanese counterpart who defeated him in a contest during WW2. This is a cut above the typical martial arts fodder. Cast includes James Ryan, Norman Combes, Charlotte Michelle, and Danie DuPlessis. (90 minutes, 1980)
Thief of Baghdad - Reeves looks for the mysterious blue rose so he could wed the Sultan's baby girl. This is nothing like the Sabu version, although this is a great piece of work. Cast includes Steve Reeves, Giorgia Moll, Arturo Dominici, and Edy Vessel. (90 minutes, 1961)
Down Argentine Way - Entertaining 20th Century Fox musical with Grable in the movie that raised her to stardom falling in love with slick Argentinean horse breeder Ameche. Miranda is superb in her first American film, acting infectious Brazilian melodies with her own band and look out for the Nicholas Brothers, who do a dynamite forte number. Picture postcard color all the way through. Cast includes Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Carmen Miranda, Charlotte Wood, Carrol Naish, Henry Stephenson, and Leonid Kinskey. (90 minutes, 1940)
The Gene Krupa Story - Routine rendition of awesome jazz drummer's life, his ups and downs, and his fight with pill dependency Cast includes Don Weis, Sal Mineo, Susan Kohner, James Darren, Susan Oliver, Yvonne Craig, Lawrence Dobkin, Red Nichols, and Buddy Lester. (101 minutes, 1959)
Danny Boy - Ambitious though arrogant, inexorably tedious melodrama of sax player Rea, who trades his sax for a gun after observing a triple killing. This was Jordan's directorial debut, which he as well did the screenplay. He and leading guy Rea later reteamed for The Weeping Game. (92 minutes, 1982)
