By Sean Elstins

The oceans off of the Mexican coast are full of a variety of fish species appealing to any kind of fisherman. Fishing is a very popular hobby for anyone visiting and living in Mexico. Swimming in the Mexican waters are fish like Marlin, Wahoo, Tarpon, Snook, and the beautiful Sailfish. The best fish to catch in Mexico are considered by many the best fish to catch in the world.

Blue Marlin is a popular fish for sport fishermen in Mexico. Being the heaviest and largest of the marlins they are a very tough fish to catch. The Blue Marlin puts up a big fight and has an incredible jumping range. September through November is the prime season for catching any kind of Marlin with October being the best month.

The Black Marlin can be hard to distinguish from the Blue Marlin. The stripe on the back of the Black Marlin is much darker than that of the Blue. The Black Marlin is also more aggressive and much harder to reel in. For many fishermen the Black Marlin will fight for many hours, and a lot of the time it wins.

In the fall the largest of the Sailfish are the most abundant, but can also be found throughout the year. With its expert leaps, the beautiful Sailfish is a fun catch for sport fishermen. This type of fish is easier to reel because they get tired easily. Kite fishing from boats, or trolling with live bait or lures are both ways to conquer these fish.

A fish that is easy to find in reefs or out in the deeper ocean is the Wahoo. They are a popular catch in the summertime. The Wahoo fish feeds on squid, small mackerel, tuna, and puffers.

Snook can be found in lagoons among snags or in open waters. These fish are abundant all throughout Central America, and are highly sensitive to temperature changes. The larger of the Snook fish are usually found in the more deep and open waters.

Tarpon are another kind of fish found in the ocean off of Mexico. They are more commonly found in the more shallow waters. Fishermen have noted that fishing for Tarpon is one of the best kinds of experiences due to the Tarpon's leaping ability to shake the hook. Tarpon is not an easy catch with only 1 out of 5 hooks being successful on average.

With all the different kinds of fish off of Mexico's coast it is an attractive location for fishermen around the globe. All year long these waters offer numerous fishing opportunities for any kind of fisherman.
