The economy is making it difficult for many us to do everyday shopping for necessities, let alone the ability to splurge on luxuries. An amazing way to save money is using coupons. I know exactly what you're thinking. I also was one of those people that grunted and groaned every time I had to wait for someone to sift through their enormous stack of coupons. But that was before I had an eye opening experience at the grocery store one day. A lady if front me handed the cashier her stack of coupons and waited for her total. Being behind her I could hear the cashier tell her that her savings for the day were seventy dollars. After picking my jaw up I asked her how she did it. She simply smiled and said "buy one get one free coupon."
When my purchase came to more than double for way less items than this customer had, I immediately decided to become a coupon user. As soon as I got home I immediately began researching the coupon phenomenon and how to use them.
What I found was there are coupons for anything and everything, both necessities and luxuries. I remembered my mom cutting out coupons from the newspaper every Sunday so that it where I did my first research. There were coupons for every restaurant we ate it, diapers for the grandchildren, oil changes and then I found the mother of all coupons.
My greatest find was for a spa I had wanted to try out but never had the money to go. This coupon made me really see the coupon light. According to the instructions printed on the coupon if I brought a friend to the spa we could both get free massages with purchase of a manicure and pedicure. After basking in my find, I called my sister who agreed to spend the thirty dollars needed to go to the spa. We spent three glorious hours being completely pampered for thirty dollars; I am for this reason an avid coupon user.
The grocery store is a great place for using coupons, but the ones available for restaurants are really great. There are coupons available for pizza, fast food and fine dining. Before using the coupon read it thoroughly as sometimes it will be only valid on certain days and times or on specific items.
Before cutting out the coupon for groceries, read them completely. Some will have the savings in bold letters but farther down it will state another purchase must be made to make the coupon valid. For example, save fifty cents on a package of bagels if you buy a package of tofu. It is a great deal if you eat tofu. If you do not eat tofu and will only throw it away, you really did not save any money. If fact you spent more than you would have with simply purchasing the bagels.
Gathering coupons is work, however, it is work that will pay off each time you use them. If you are unsure of how to begin using coupons, start small with cutting them out of the Sunday paper. There are numerous sites online that offer coupons for specific items you use and you could have the coupons sent to your email daily.
Shopping can be frustrating when trying to save money but using coupons will cut your bill down tremendously. Cut out and take with you only the coupons you know you will use. The most glorious coupon is the buy one get one free coupon. When you find these, use them. Many times you can get items that will make it possible for you to stock up. Paper and non perishable items are great coupon buys because even if you do not currently need the item, you can keep it in stock.
