Long road trips is the vacation that most people took their children on year ago. That is not the case anymore, parents are booking flights for vacations across the world with their kids. If you are one of these parents you are more than likely wondering how you are going to survive this flight.
If you are travelling with an infant you can choose to hold them in your lap instead of buying an extra seat for them. Seat belts have extensions on airplanes for just this occasion so do not worry your child will be safe. When your child turns two however you will be required to buy them a seat.
You can only hold one child in your lap, so if you have more than one child and they are both under two you will need another adult along on the flight. Some people prefer to spend the extra money and book a seat for their infants so they can bring a car seat along.
This will be more expensive but you can eat, read, and move around. You can not do these things very easily while holding a child in your lap. Always be prepared when travelling with a baby because airlines do not have things your baby might need.
You will want to pack several diapers and extra bottles. There are other things that your baby will need and you need to bring them too but we all know that diapers and bottles are the most important. When travelling with children two or older, airlines usually have a few things they can give your child.
I strongly caution against it but if you do forget to bring things to keep your child busy the airline will usually give them crayons with a coloring book. They can even get a small goody bag with little toys or a kids' meal to eat. Be sure to let the airline know the age of the child you will have on the flight. If they know in advance they will usually have baby food or meals for your child.
The best advice I can share is to book your flight during a down time. If you can find a flight that is not quite full or one that is departing during your child's nap or bed time this will make for a better flight. Try making a check list so that you are sure to pack everything your kids will need.
