Experience A Chocolate-Dipped Caribbean

Orbitz Family Sale Exp July 15, 2007

Someone once said, "Chocolate doesn't make the world go around. But it certainly makes the trip worthwhile." That must have been the inspiration behind Regent Seven Seas Cruise Line's annual Spotlight is on...Chocolate theme cruise in the Caribbean each December.

The Caribbean is an appropriate setting to explore the mysteries of cocoa and chocolate since Columbus discovered cocoa beans in a Mayan canoe on his third voyage to the New World in 1502; he may have known they were used as money, but he never learned of the marvelous beverage the Mayans made from the beans. This year, the Seven Seas Voyager resident pastry chefs will have things to say, and show, about the varieties of chocolates from around the world. Guests on board have the opportunity to experience chocolate demonstrations and tastings, accompanied by carefully selected wines. One such demonstration will feature simple and clever ways to entertain for the upcoming holidays or for any occasion.

On this cruise, the spotlight also shines on enrichment programs flavored with topics such as the numerous health benefits of chocolate, chocolate's origins and history and inspiring ideas for creating chocolate delicacies and seductive desserts. "Spotlight" thematic curriculums and lectures on chocolate are complimentary to all guests throughout the voyage.

Another ingredient--and perhaps as alluring--of this Spotlight is on...Chocolate theme cruise is the opportunity to escape to the warmth of Caribbean island sunshine in December. There will be a host of occasions ashore to explore picturesque villages and diverse cultures and even optional shore excursions that focus on island cuisine to enhance your journey. In San Juan, for example, an exclusive lunch at Pikayo Restaurant, located in the Museum of Art, including a visit with owner, restaurateur and celebrity chef Wilo Benet is offered. Or, delve into Puerto Rico's rich heritage and examine the rum-making process during a tour of Old San Juan and the Bacardi Rum Distillery.
